20th Harmattan School Communique
The University for Development Studies (UDS) successfully convened the 20th Harmattan School from 11th to 12th February 2026.
The annual Harmattan School, a flagship intellectual and policy dialogue platform of the University, brought together academics, policymakers, development practitioners, traditional authorities, civil society actors, students, and members of the diplomatic community to deliberate on pressing development challenges and opportunities within Northern Ghana and beyond.
Over the two days, participants engaged in rigorous discussions, thought-provoking presentations, and solution-oriented exchanges aimed at advancing inclusive growth, strengthening local governance systems, deepening innovation, and promoting sustainable livelihoods. The forum reaffirmed UDS’ unique mandate as a pro-poor, community-engaged university committed to generating knowledge that directly addresses the developmental needs of society.
The 20th edition of the Harmattan School further underscored the University’s resolve to serve as a convener of transformative dialogue and a catalyst for evidence-based policy interventions. This communiqué captures the key deliberations, resolutions, and recommendations that emerged from the School.
