The C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) has showered glowing commendations on the University for Development Studies (UDS) following its spectacular victory at the 2025 FISU World University Football Championship in Dalian, China.
In a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor of CKT-UTAS, Professor Albert Luguterah, the university described the triumph as not only a victory for UDS, but also a monumental milestone for Ghana and the African continent.
“On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Faculty, Staff and Students of CKT-UTAS, I extend profound congratulations to the University for Development Studies (UDS) on their successful annexation of the World University Football trophy at the just-ended FISU 2025 World University Football Tournament,” Prof. Luguterah declared.
He emphasized the historic nature of the win, noting that it marked the very first time an African university had lifted the coveted global trophy. “This well-deserved milestone is worth celebrating not only because it marks the first time an African University has lifted the coveted trophy, but also because this monumental feat, birthed out of the unrelenting resilience of our gallant players and visionary technical team, confers on Ghana and Africa an unprecedented honour and recognition in world university football,” he added.
As an institution carved out of UDS, CKT-UTAS said it shares in the pride of the achievement. “As an academic institution of excellence that was carved out of the UDS, we share common values, beliefs, and aspirations. To say that we are overjoyed and proud to be associated with this historic achievement is an understatement,” Prof. Luguterah remarked with visible pride.
He further noted that the entire CKT-UTAS community followed the games with keen interest, particularly the thrilling penultimate clash with Granada University of Spain and the nail-biting final against Paulista University of Brazil. “The entire CKT-UTAS community stood with you in awe of the ultimate prize and were thrilled at the display of skill and tenacity by Team UDS,” he said.
Concluding his message, the Vice-Chancellor saluted the UDS team for their resilience and brilliance. “Once again, we doff our hats to you on this incredible accomplishment! With so much joy and pride, we celebrate this feat with you,” he affirmed.
The victory by UDS has not only etched the institution’s name in world university sports history but has also ignited national and continental pride, making it a moment of glory for Africa.
