Gallant Students Receive Prize Package for Winning National Innovation Contest

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has once again stamped its authority on the national stage, as its fearless innovators, the gallant students who clinched first place in the Students Venture Support Programme (SVSP), have now received their full prize package.

Earlier this month, the UDS website broke the news of their victory, when the team outclassed competitors from some of Ghana’s most prestigious universities to emerge champions of the SVSP. That proud moment was more than just a win, it was a signal that UDS is fast becoming a cradle of innovation and entrepreneurship in Ghana.

Now, the victory has been rewarded. The students’ prize package has officially been delivered, and payments have been made to universities whose ventures placed 1st , 2nd, 3rd , and 4th. In addition, all four prize-winning ventures (1st to 4th place) have received their full packages.

But receiving the prize is just the beginning of a much bigger journey. The SVSP requires winning ventures to register their businesses and develop concrete business plans that outline exactly how the funds will be utilized to scale up their innovative solutions. For the UDS champions, this marks the start of a new and exciting chapter, turning their bold idea into a fully-fledged enterprise.

The story doesn’t end there. The Association of Ghana Start-ups (AGS) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have stepped in with additional support for the finalists. Their packages include:

  1. Automatic admission of all SVSP Cohort 4 members into the AGS network.
  2. Assistance for Demo Day finalists to secure FDA certification.
  3. A new student-focused entrepreneurship programme to be rolled out across the four participating universities.
  4. Sponsorship for four ventures to showcase at the upcoming Ghana Startup Week.
  5. Nomination of SVSP startups for the Ghana Innovation & Startup Awards (Student Category).

For UDS, the triumph goes beyond prize money. It is a statement of resilience and creativity, an emphatic reminder that when it comes to innovation and problem-solving, UDS students can match and surpass the very best in the country.

With their prize package now in hand and the backing of powerful institutions, the UDS winners are poised to take their venture to the next level, carrying the hopes of their University community and setting an example for student innovators nationwide.

Indeed, the SVSP victory has not just given UDS bragging rights, it has solidified the University’s reputation as a powerhouse of innovation, where bold ideas are nurtured into life-changing ventures.
