Savannah Regional Minister Donates GHC10,000 to UDS World Champions
The Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Be Awuribe, has donated GHC10,000 to the gallant University for Development Studies (UDS) football team, winners of the FISU Universities World Football Tournament held recently in Dalian, China.
Hon. Awuribe, himself a proud member of the UDS community, having previously served as a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, described his donation as a “little contribution” to celebrate a team that has brought immense joy to the nation and etched UDS’ name onto the global sporting map.
He lauded the players and technical team for their exceptional discipline, teamwork, and determination, noting that their victory over top university sides from around the world is a shining example of the talent and potential within Ghana’s universities.
“You have lifted not just the flag of UDS, but that of Ghana. Your achievement has inspired hope and pride across the country, and this gesture is my humble way of saying thank you,” the Minister remarked as he presented the cash donation to the team.
Receiving the donation on behalf of his colleagues, Team Captain Mohammed Asigre expressed deep appreciation to the Minister for his generosity and encouragement. “We feel appreciated and motivated to do even more. This gesture means a lot to us,” he said with a smile, as his teammates cheered in agreement.
The UDS football team made global headlines when they defeated the University of Paulista of Brazil in a thrilling final to emerge World Champions, a feat that has since been celebrated nationwide as one of Ghana’s most remarkable sporting achievements.
Hon. Awuribe’s gesture adds to the growing wave of commendations and support from individuals and institutions across Ghana, all joining in to honour the UDS World Champions, a team whose triumph continues to resonate as a symbol of hope, excellence, and national pride.
