UDS Governing Council Inaugurates Search Committee for Next Vice-Chancellor
The Governing Council of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has inaugurated and sworn into office, a Search Committee mandated to identify and recommend a suitable candidate for appointment as the next Vice-Chancellor of the University. The brief but solemn ceremony was held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Central Administration Block on the Tamale Campus.
The Ceremony which was chaired by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Amb. Abdullah Salifu, marks a significant step in the leadership transition process as the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor draws to a close. In his remarks, he underscored the importance of a transparent, merit-based, and forward-looking search process that will produce a leader capable of advancing UDS’ mission of academic excellence, research innovation, and community development.
The newly inaugurated Search Committee is tasked with Identifying qualified candidates, both internal and external, who possess the requisite academic, administrative, and leadership credentials to steer UDS over the next tenure.
The Chairman emphasized that the integrity of the search process is paramount and encouraged the Committee to discharge its duties with professionalism, confidentiality, and fairness.
The Search Committee has been given up to the end of May 2026 to complete its work and present its final report to the Governing Council. This timeline is expected to ensure a smooth transition and allow the Council ample time to complete the appointment process before the next academic cycle.
Members of the Committee expressed their appreciation to the Governing Council for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to work diligently to identify a leader who will consolidate the gains made by the University and propel it to greater heights.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Governing Council, key officers of the University, and representatives of staff and student groups.
